For What It's Worth

Well, we seem to have successfully switched internet service providers here, moving from Comcast to CenturyLink (formerly Qwest) with a minimum of hassle so far. Actually we're still on Comcast at the moment, though we're not using it, until I go in and formally sever all connections, but it's looking good at the moment.

One of the nice things about the new arrangement is that we have one small device (the internet modem) replacing three larger devices (the modem, the router, and the thing that made the Comcast phone work), reducing wires and clutter upstairs. For my purposes the internet seems to be as accessible as ever, though it is possible that we may see some longer load times for bandwidth-heavy applications. I'm not sure.

We've been putting up with crappy service from Comcast for some time, what with unexplained service outages, slow speeds, and phone transmissions apparently bounced off the moon, to judge by the delays and garbling. Vonage was never that bad; the new line (judging only from a single call--we'll see) appears to be clear, ungarbled, and delay-free.
