damp morning

Walked with Nancy this morning at 8:30, and once again met Echo, the rescue former show-dog Lakeland Terrier. Echo is beginning to respond a very little to greetings and friendly pats, learning a little what it is to be a dog. The smallest hint of a wag yesterday, more pronounced today. What rigid training he must have had to lose all dogly sense of joy. His rescuing owner says Echo shows affection at home, with him and his wife, because he is always around them, but is only slowly allowing himself any reaching out to people. The owner hands Nancy or me a treat bit of food to offer, and that gives us a chance to talk to him and pat him as well as rewarding him.

Lots of birdsong on the walk-- heard flickers, and white-crowned sparrows, as well as a nuthatch and some hedge sparrows and a wren-- very busy birds, and lots of chatter as well as song.

This afternoon I will ride along with my friend Sue Andrews, who is responsible this time for the Yachats Art Guild exhibit at the Yachats Commons, and today is the artists' reception. So I'll get out and aout for that.

Otherwise, working on writing ...
