Don Pasquale

Yesterday was my first experience with comic opera, other than Gilbert & Sullivan, and it was fun. A chilly day, not good for anything outdoor or active, so it was neat we had this planned and had got tickets in advance-- Sue is an opera fan, and Newport lucked into being the Oregon theatre for the huge screen DVD simulcasts with the Metropolitan Opera House in New York-- so we get to see the Met performances in live broadcast, right here on the rustic, rural coast.

The humor was broader than I'd have expected, and there were no unpredictable punch-lines-- you could see anything coming. Don Pasquale is by Donizetti, and the music was splendid. The plot was typically comedic-- the almost-four hours went fast. The first two hours we were chilled by air conditioning. Sue got hold of someone and asked them please to cut the AC and turn on a bit of heat-- and the last half was comfortable.

Each of us was in a hurry to get home and see to the various cats--Sue planned to let her Sammi and Hairy out, but I thought Lucy and Molly would prefer lap-sitting in a cozy house. We got a quick lunch at Seal Rock's Diner on the way home, and checked out a bead shop while we were there. Home about 3:00, after a long and interesting viewing and outing.

I need to take stuff to the library and get things, but they're not open Sundays, so a trip will have to wait till tomorrow.

Working on poems this morning.

Onward--
