I see we missed some interesting January days-- January 13, on which my older brother would have turned 81, is: the Ides of January/Tiugunde Day/Midvintersblót/St Hilary/New Year's Day in the Julian calendar/ and the beginning of the Runic Half-month Peorth.
The Pagan Book of Days also tells us that some places still observe this New Year's Day by wassailing (paying homage to apple trees). This day, twenty days after Yule, is sacred to Tiu, the ancient Teutonic chief god who rules the year.
The 11th and 12th were also interesting, honoring men's work and women's work respectively--the 11th being Plough Monday, and the 12th being St. Distaff's Day, honoring Frigg, whose followers were known an the Freefolk. A verse about her indicates she is not totally work-minded:
Partly work and partly play,
Ye must, on St. Distaff's Day.
We walked this morning but got some rain, and my coat was soaked. Gotta go for groceries, regardless of weather. Molly and Lucy send greetings-- they are very tired of being stuck indoors.
